Claims: worst claims procedure ever!

I travel a lot and I normally buy tickets online. I bought a trip for my wife to visit Nepal and cheapoair suggested that I buy tripmate insurance to cover in case of trip cancellations. I trusted and bought - I still think it is wise to buy travel insurance to cover our trip. A week before her return, my wife decided to hike up to her mountain home in western Nepal and became sick. She thought she was not going to be able to fly. She had to go to see a doctor and was prescribed some medicine and rest. So, I decided to change her travel date (Korean air), it was too expensive to change so cheapoair suggested that I cancel the return ticket and claim refunds from the Tripmate insurance. I cancelled and made another return ticket spending $1123, so I claimed the same amount with the Trip Mate. It's been three months and they keep asking for documents. I have sent them documents from tickets to medical reports to my new booking information everything they have asked for! But still this week I receive yet another request from Trip Mate to send them doctor's statement. My wife is already back home and she saw a doctor in third world country, why do we need to reproduce those medical documents again. The doctor already gave his assessment report at the time of visit and when we contact the doctor/hospital, they say they cannot send another report unless I send the patient to see the doctor! How foolish can it get? I am not claiming for any medical expenses. No. All I am asking is to cover my cancelled return ticket! I think Trip Mate is the worst insurance service I have experienced here in the USA. It's worse than 3rd world country. What if I had to cancel and had no money to purchase another ticket unless I was refunded? Travel insurance should be acting much quicker, if not, they should stop claiming that we should buy their insurance for the 'peace of mind'. How laughable!

Bad Customer Service and Denial for wrong reason - SCAM

Trip Mate - Bad Customer Service and Denial for wrong reason - SCAM
Original review Feb 13, 2023
Worst travel insurance ever! Do not purchase any travel anything related to Tripmate. We purchased a trip for $4,237 that included $808 of TripMate insurance. We filed one claim for a cancel for any reason because we were told that we had that coverage. We completed all documentation, submitted all paperwork via email. TripMate then posts on their website for each piece of documentation Acknowledgement card sent. I kept asking about these acknowledgement cards. TripMate kept telling me that even though their site states Acknowledgement card sent that they DID NOT SEND ANYTHING TO ANYONE ANYWHERE. That was only their internal way of noting that they had received my information. To me that makes no sense. On my invoice it states, Waiver Benefit Price and I submitted the invoice and a copy of the insurance as part of the claim. Their agents on the phone would tell me that I have coverage then the agents reviewing the claim denied the claim. This agency is a SCAM. Stay away form anything TripMate related. When I spoke to someone to find out why I had been denied they said that I did not have the waiver benefit. They said that I could appeal or submit another claim. I submitted another claim. When I submitted another claim, they are now very very unpleasant to deal with. I have now submitted as a cancel for the cause of sick with backup proof of doctors letters and medical records, called several times and submitted several other proofs of evidence. This company is now choosing to ignore me. I have called now for the past 2 weeks and delt with very unpleasant people and seen no proof of review. Again, I say SCAM. My husband and I are out $4,237 for a trip that we paid to INDUS that we had insurance through TripMate that we will never be able to take. Bottom line AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!

Viking/TripMate denying claim on insurance policy they TOLD US to buy

Trip Mate - Viking/TripMate denying claim on insurance policy they TOLD US to buy
Trip Mate - Viking/TripMate denying claim on insurance policy they TOLD US to buy
Trip Mate Contract # GR425V We followed Viking's advice to purchase their own recommended travel insurance (TripMate) so that we would be compensated for unused portions of any trip interrupted by Covid. Our 7-day luxury cruise was, unfortunately, interrupted by covid. In fact, the entire 7 days were spent in isolation either in our cabin or in an airport hotel located in Paris. Knowing we had purchased this insurance was the ONLY peace of mind during this horrific trip. Yet, 5 months after we submitted our claim, we continue to experience delay, misrepresentation, nonexistent follow-up, unfulfilled promises and months of unexplained silence re our claim against Viking policy cover-ups and insured losses by TripMate. We submitted several insurance claims to Tripmate and followed up numerous times, with more information and repeated requests for payment of our claim and closure of the matter. We contacted Vikings Customer Service Department a number of times, which has resulted in no offer to mediate, compensate or intervene in any way re its own, unannounced Covid one and done testing policy, which caused this whole debacle, or with Tripmate for coverage under the insurance policy that Viking recommended to cover this very occurrence. Tripmate continues to reject (by its silence, since there has never been a formal denial of the claim) the very insurance claims they promised to cover when we purchased the additional insurance policy. Trip Mate also blatantly ignores our numerous attempts and requests to speak with a Tripmate supervisor so that we can come to some sort of fair resolution. No supervisor has ever called us despite repeated promises that our claim was being escalated and that we would receive prompt follow-up. Trip Details and Background On April 10, 2021, we arrived for our 7-day cruise vaccinated, boosted, and armed with current negative Covid test results, as was required by Viking policies. On our first full day, a crew member shockingly informed us that (despite all the shots, negative tests and having not 1 symptom) one of us had received a positive Covid test result when we first boarded the afternoon before: a false positive result that we expected would be corrected and clarified with a second and third Covid test. Two subsequent tests were conducted after the first test and before we were removed from the boat, but the results were never revealed because of Vikings failure to consider retesting results. One oral swab test and we were done with our trip. We were told that even with no symptoms and 2 negative retests we would have to immediately quarantine in our room and leave the boat immediately as soon as they could arrange a ride to Paris for further quarantine there. What followed was 5 days of isolation, chaos, frustration, and misinformation, followed by what has now been almost 5 months of delay, misrepresentation, nonexistent follow-up, unfulfilled promises and months of unexplained silence re our claim against Viking policy cover-ups and insured losses by their carrier. Rather than cruising on a Riverboat for our 49th wedding anniversary, we spent the rest of the week in a hotel room at the Paris airport. No books. French language TV only. Not once during what was to be our luxury 7-day excursion did we experience a single element of cruising. No sitting on the deck, gazing at the view and breathing in the fresh countryside air and taking in the countryside views. No socializing or 5-Star dining experiences. Rather, we packed and unpacked twice on successive days awaiting removal from the boat and the ride to Paris we were told would be coming but didnt arrive for 2 days. During this time, we could not leave our (viewless) cabin on the boat. For most of the hours, we were tied up to a sister boat, staring directly into a cabin on that boat. The remaining days of our trip included a 7-hour car ride to Paris followed by 3 days of further isolation in an airport hotel room, which we could not leave, followed by retesting and directions by Viking to leave Paris within 24 hours. All meals on the boat awaiting our removal and at the hotel were left outside our doors. We were indeed pariahs. All over one false positive Covid test. One thought sustained us during this nightmare. We had purchased TripMate's insurance as Viking recommended. Since our trip was interrupted due to covid, we expected to be compensated, as promised by Viking and TripMate.

had a long Amtrak (train) trip in Aug. 2022 at a cost of $15,000.00! Had health problems halfway throught the trip, had to cancel and pay for flights home. We paid Tripmate $ 1,000.00 for trip insurance, after three months and a lot of documentation we received a check for each of us (my husband and I) for $ 287.38. They did the same to me. We have been trying to get this settled for almost a year.

They are claiming my receipts are from December 2021.. My trip wasn't even until January 2022. I have filed a claim with BBB and Jennifer, from Florida has danced around responding with proof of December 2021 receipt. As of last weekend, I have decided to move forward with small claims court.

It doesn't cost much and there are 3 different options on how to have them served..

I completed all my paperwork yesterday and I am dropping it in the mail to the Kansas Courthouse today. I am only 3 hours from Kansas so I will follow through with this so they can't scam anyone else.

I would give them a -10 if I could..

Wrote a review and received a response that the supervisor, Brionna would contact me. It has been two days and still no call. Called tripmate and was told Brionna is working from home. I asked what that had to do with her calling me as promised. No answer. Was told would send her a message and she would contact me. I am out of my money and can't get a respose. Do not buy this insurance.

Extension of travel certificate beyond 2 years / COVID

I have an expiring travel voucher from Tripmate due to a canceled trip in February 2020. I am trying to get an extension of the voucher Due to Covid. After multiple calls to both Globus Travel and Tripmate, After multiple calls to both Companies customer service lines, I have yet to have an answer. Tripmate says it is a Globus decision and Globus says it is a Tripmate decision. I just want to know if I can extend my travel insurance voucher for another year.

Refuses to provide refund

Purchased travel insurance for my sons school trip to Mexico which was subsequently cancelled by the school due to COVID. Should have received a complete refund, but this company refuses to provide any updates, they request the same information over and over, promising a response in 30 days which has now stretched to over 4 months without a resolution. Cant get an email response, or a phone call, or even talk to a customer service rep. The 800 number is a joke, just sends you in the endless loop of non-information by directing you to the website. This is hands down the worst company Ive ever tried to deal with.

My husband and I have a claim in for greater than 20K. We were not able to make our international connection for a river cruise with Viking due to the President of US landing at our airport of departure, backing all air traffic outbound. Reading all the reviews is very disappointing.

Waste of money and time

We had to cancel our travel plans due to COVID 19 since we both were high risk and the state we were flying to had the highest rates of Covid. We completed all forms, secured the proper medical documentation, only to receive a staged form that did not address the reasons we had to cancel. The rejection form did not include the full name of the reviewero T and was not even signed. Very unprofessional.

Complaint about Tripmate

After waiting from May 6, 2020 to July 31, 2020 and writing many letters including a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, I received a partial reimbursement from the travel company (not from Tripmate) but not for the travel portion. After about 4 pages of calls and follow-up to Tripmate, the company agreed to reimburse the full price of my trip with vouchers (I hit the ceiling). Apparently cancellation for any reason turned out to be 'any reason' the company sees fit. The policy states if you pay for insurance, you can get refunds in money or vouchers. The issues caused by the pandemic wasn't good enough. I was told at one point, money could not be refunded because I didn't actually have COVID..
